Mexico 2012

Cancun Mexico 2012
The Trip of Dreams
(September 15-29th)
Saturday September 15th
The Plane Ride
The Plane ride over was really pretty smooth.  Ty had his own seat and sat between Mike and I.  Grandma Trudy had Tate and Taylee and kept them incredibly entertained.  And Dad had a quiet seat away from all the distraction where he got to rest before a fast paced adventure.  Things were off to a great start until..........................................................................................................................................

we landed in Dallas and noticed our plane had been delayed 6 hours.  Everyone kept a very positive attitude.  We found a Mc Donalds and we were set. We lost a half a day of Mexico, but renting a car at 11:00 p.m. was much smoother than renting during the middle of the day.  At the Cancun airport a native lady carried my suitcase to the shuttle while I carried Ty.  My mom said, "Oh I like the different attitude in Mexico.  This just feels good."  That was refreshing to hear seeing as how we had lost a day of vacation and she had flown with the majority of our children.

Sunday September 16th
Cancun Stake Center
We got a little lost on the way to the Stake Center. Mike's GPS was not working and we found out later that they had recently changed a street name in Cancun. So it was different than the address that we had. We were about 20 minutes late and wondered if it was worth trying to find it. Mike pulled over and we said a prayer. He pulled out onto the street and it seemed as if the car drove right to it.
We did miss the Sacrament, but we only missed the first youth speaker. The Adult speaker was the same man that spoke 2 years ago when we attended with Doug and Debbie. This time he spoke as a councelor to the Bishop. The last time he spoke was as a high council man. He had an incredible testimony and my mom was very touched by his love for the gospel.
In English, he said to my mom, "I owe everything to God and this gospel. I owe him everything." The closing speaker shared President Eryring message from the September Ensign on "Sharing the Gospel." We talked with Carlos after wards and set up our Monday excursion. Then we went shopping at Wal-Mart.

ZOO CROCOCUN

A real live petting zoo!!!

One picture where it was hard to get the
humans to smile but the crocodile really
cheesed it up!

There were crocodiles behind us
also!  We were surrounded.

The proper greeting in Mexico.  A KISS!!!
Hey, get your tongue back in your mouth.
Pretty BirdMike the bird whisperer.

 Welcome to Mexico Tate
The mighty crocodile hunter!

We were afraid that Ty might be a little afraid of this petting zoo.  Nope!  We had to try hard to keep him from climbing in the open pens behind him with all of the baby crocodiles.

Can I keep Him?

Like father like son.
\
Cheese
What do you mean I have to give him back!?!  He likes me.  He wants me to take him home.
Grandma really liked the crocodiles

Step aside Crocodile Dundee.  Here I come!
This is the greatest  zoo!  It's so up close and personal.

Ty loved everything!

My lizard Grandma!

Tate what a lovely necklace you're wearing.  Wait!  Is that a boa constrictor?

Is everyone just going to stand there or can someone
get this snake off of me?

Have I ever told you how much I hate snakes?
Hey, where are you going?

The Crocodile Den

Feeding the Monkey's with a basket.
This year we were not allowed to feed the monkey's by hand.  We had to put the food in a basket and the monkey pulled it up in the trees to eat.  Our guide told us it was because the monkey's scratch the tourist.  Later she confessed that the monkey's were so tame that people would take them home.  They were being stolen, because they were so friendly.  So we were told to keep our distance.
Feeding the deer.
These deer are a whole lot smaller than the deer found in Idaho and Utah.
Our little animal princess posing for a picture.

By the time we finished petting the deer we were sure we had experienced a successful, injury free trip to the petting zoo with no animal bits, but I spoke too soon.  Right after petting the deer Taylee started crying and kicking.  Ty acted as though he was extremely uncomfortable also.  As we looked closer, sure enough, FIRE ANTS.  Our guide grabbed the cream that we had to use on Taylee two years ago at the same zoo after she had touched one of the trees.  We rubbed it all over their iritated skin and washed their hands clean.
My mom's only complaint about the zoo was that she didn't just feel surrounded by crocodiles in the crocodile den.  She didn't get the thrill she thought she would by getting that up close and personal with the fierce creatures.  It was a little to mild and tame for her liking.
One last good-bye to an old friend.  Only the zoo keepers are allowed to hold this bird because of it's bite, but Mike has a way with animals and the zoo keeper watched with a mouth wide open as Mike made a friend.
After the zoo we took a dip in the pool.  My mom slipped and hurt her back.  She down played it but still hurts to this day.  I did a dive into the pool and messed up my back also.  It bugged me for a lot of the trip, expecially scuba diving with all that heavy gear, but now I feel pretty good.  It was sure a busy first day in Mexico.  We got a lot in.  How fun.
